The Healing Power Of The Didgeridoo

The didgeridoo is an ancient Australian Aboriginal wind instrument used by them in their sacred ceremonies or 'Corroborees.' They are traditionally crafted from naturally termite hollowed Eucalyptus trees. It is thought that they are the oldest instruments in the world. and date back 1,500 years, and are still in use today. They are currently being used in the west as a muscial instrument and for healing. The didgeridoo is called by many variations in the west including didjeridu, didj and didge, where it was named by virue of the sound it produced. The Aboriginals call it many names, as they have many languages. The Arrernte in Alice Springs call it the Ilpirra, the Djinang from Arnhem Land call it the Yirtakki and the Warray from the Adelaide River call it the bambu.

Didgeridoo Healing

The didge is a very mysterious instrument and has a very haunting sound. It produces powerful low frequency vibrations which can be directed at an individual to help clear blockages and instill a profound sense of peace and connection. Alternatively, just sitting in the presence of a didgeridoo while it is being played can be a very earthing and relaxing experience.

Playing the didge is a very healing experience and can help to create a good breathing pattern which has been shown to help overcome sleep problems like apnoea and snoring.

I have experimented with using the didge to sound mantras, including Tibetan and Reiki. Please watch the YouTube video below to hear some of these healing sounds.
